Platform Intelligence

Your platform shapes your score

Same audit, different results -- because Shopify, WordPress, and Wix have different ceilings. Stackra adjusts every benchmark, recommendation, and scoring threshold to what you can actually control on your platform.

How platform detection works

Four layers of platform intelligence applied to every scan.

Platform fingerprinting

We scan 217 technology patterns to identify the CMS, hosting environment, framework, and major integrations present on your site. Platform identity shapes every recommendation we make.

Owner control model

Every platform has things only the owner can change and things the platform controls. We separate these explicitly. Managed platforms (Wix, Squarespace) do not receive CWV recommendations for signals outside owner control.

Platform-adjusted scoring

Security headers, performance benchmarks, and CWV pass rates are interpreted against platform norms, not the web average. A 67% CWV pass rate means something different on Squarespace than on WordPress.

Platform-specific quirks

We track known platform behaviors that create false signals: Wix blocking PetalBot by default, Squarespace's lab vs field data divergence, Shopify OS 2.0 vs legacy theme performance gaps, and more.

Platforms

Mobile Core Web Vitals pass rates from HTTP Archive CrUX data. Click any platform for detection details, performance benchmarks, and what Stackra looks for.

WordPress

42.6% of the web
45%
CWV pass rate

Below 48% web average

The most variable platform. Every result reflects owner decisions on hosting, caching, and plugins -- not the platform itself.

Top issues

  • No page cache -- every uncached request runs full PHP and a database query
  • Page builder overhead (Elementor on 43% of sites) is structural, not a misconfiguration
  • Site-wide noindex left on after launch is the most common cause of zero search traffic

Shopify

~5% of the web
78%
CWV pass rate

Strongest baseline of any CMS

The strongest CWV baseline of any major CMS. OS 2.0 stores are significantly faster than legacy themes -- a gap our scanner detects.

Top issues

  • Legacy OS 1.0 theme -- 15 to 30 Lighthouse points slower than a modern OS 2.0 theme
  • App scripts loading on every page, including apps only needed at checkout
  • Heavy product images -- Shopify handles format conversion, not source file weight

Wix

~4% of the web
71%
CWV pass rate

Largest YoY improvement of any platform

Platform-level optimizations push to all sites simultaneously. The biggest single-year CWV improvement of any major platform (55% to 71% YoY).

Top issues

  • Heavy hero images uploaded at full resolution -- Wix converts format, not file weight
  • App Market scripts load on every page with no way to conditionally load by page type
  • Third-party embeds (Calendly, HubSpot chat) bypass Wix's optimization layer entirely

Squarespace

~2.5% of the web
Coming soon
68%
CWV pass rate

#1 for INP (95.9%), weak LCP

Best INP responsiveness of any platform but weak LCP. Lighthouse lab scores diverge significantly from real-user field data -- context we surface in every scan.

Top issues

  • LCP is the weak point -- above-fold image size is the primary lever owners actually control
  • Lighthouse scores look worse than reality: lab ~31 vs 68% real-user CWV pass rate
  • No server header access -- third-party script management is the main performance lever

Webflow

<1% of the web
Coming soon
CWV data
in progress

Developer-targeted with clean semantic output. Low plugin overhead reduces third-party script variables compared to other platforms.

Top issues

  • Lottie animations and interaction scripts add 200-400KB on design-heavy sites
  • CMS-powered pages and static pages have different performance profiles
  • Webflow hosting vs custom domain affects cache headers and security header control
CWV pass rates are mobile field data from HTTP Archive / CrUX (real users, 75th percentile, 28-day window). WordPress: Web Almanac 2025 (July 2025 data). Shopify: CrUX February 2026. Wix and Squarespace: CrUX June 2025. Market share figures from W3Techs, March 2026.
