SEO Foundations
5 itemsRun the Wix SEO Setup Checklist
Marketing & SEO → SEO Tools → SEO Setup Checklist. Wix generates a personalised list of fixes for your site, so work through each item until you hit 100%. This is the fastest win on the platform.
- Verify Google ownership of your site if you haven't already.
- Connect Google Search Console: it surfaces ranking and indexing issues Wix can't see on its own.
- Set your homepage title, description, and keywords from the checklist UI directly.
- Re-run the checklist after major content updates: it adapts to your current site state.
Set a unique title tag and meta description on every page
In the Editor, click the page in the left menu → SEO Basics. Write a clear, keyword-led title under 60 characters. Wix's defaults repeat across pages.
Add unique alt text to every image
Click an image in the Editor → Settings (gear icon) → Alt Text. Describe what's in the image in plain English. Helps Google and screen-reader users.
Verify your sitemap in Google Search Console
Wix auto-publishes it at yoursite.com/sitemap.xml. Add it in Search Console → Sitemaps. Wix updates it automatically when you add or remove pages.
Write real SEO descriptions on your blog posts
Wix Blog → click a post → SEO Basics. If you leave the description blank, Wix auto-fills it from your first paragraph, which is rarely the right pitch for search results.
Performance
4 itemsAudit installed apps and remove anything you don't actively use
Wix Dashboard → Apps → Manage Apps. Each installed app loads JavaScript on every page with no way to limit it to specific pages. This is the single biggest performance lever on Wix.
Compress hero images before uploading
Aim for under 500KB for hero shots. Wix auto-converts your images to WebP and serves them from its CDN, but it doesn't shrink your source files.
Remove unused embedded widgets
In the Editor, scan every page for chat widgets, countdown timers, social-feed embeds, and reviews widgets you don't use. Each one adds page weight even when not visible.
Turn on every available toggle in Site Performance
Dashboard → SEO & Performance → Site Performance. Enable lazy loading, image optimization, and CDN preload. Free, takes 1 minute, real CWV impact.
AI Search Visibility (Bonus)
3 itemsAdd Organization schema via Wix's Structured Data Markup
In the Editor, click a page → SEO Basics → Advanced SEO → Structured Data Markup → Add new markup. Paste a JSON-LD block with your business name, URL, and logo. Add it once on the homepage.
Verify your robots.txt allows AI crawlers
Open yoursite.com/robots.txt in a browser. Confirm no Disallow rules name GPTBot, ClaudeBot, or Google-Extended. If you need to change anything, Wix has a built-in editor at SEO Dashboard → Tools and Settings → Robots.txt Editor. Wix flags it as advanced, so only edit if you know what you're changing.
Don't worry about security headers: Wix handles them for you
If a scanner tells you your site is missing CSP, HSTS, or compression headers, that's normal. Wix manages all of these at the platform level. There's nothing to fix and it doesn't hurt your SEO.
